Richard Strockbine

by on Jun.30, 2009, under Uncategorized

Richard Strockbine left us last night.  He was my uncle, a grandfather to others.  Arrangements are still being made, I think a viewing will be held in Absecon.  We will miss him so much.  I used to see him a lot when I was a kid and a teenager.  We would stay at the farm on Pine Avenue and my dad would drive us to see his mom.  Uncle Dick and my grandma lived together.  We would stay at their place until it got dark.  On the drive back to the farm we would fall asleep.

I remember visiting uncle dick with my dad when
i was little. He always had a cat or two. I
remember a siamese cat. It was beautiful. Uncle
Dick had pictures of the old west. He liked
the old west and guns. He was a nice uncle.

My grandfather, Richard Strockbine, was a gentle giant. He was always there for me, when I was little and I have wonderful memories of him. he was a Civil War enthusiast, and had a ton of books about the war.
His cats, Tom and Sam (the siamese one that Therese wrote about) were like children to him.

I was lucky enough to move him closer to me at the end of his life, and spent the last 7 months visiting him in a nursing home not far from my home. He often told stories of old times, and at one time he sat still and was silent and then told me he missed his Mom. Although it was hard to see him decline, I was happy to be able to see him every week. He loved donuts and a good cup of coffee, which I would take to him every time I went to visit. (as soon as I walked in he had a look in his eyes and would search for the bag of donuts!!!) I will miss him dearly.

I am loking for one of my former students from the Cramp Child Care Center in Philadelphia. Her name is Donna Strockbine. I was her teacher. My son has been busy going thru old pictures , scanning them and posting them on Facebook pages of St Hugh and Cramp. I want to know if she is doing well. I always think of my kids at Cramp
